A Vegan's Review of Christmas at Glass Brasserie Restaurant & Wine Bar, Sydney

Complimentary vegan taster - golden beet and asparagus

Tis the season to treat yourself to a fine dining experience at Glass Brasserie with a Modern Australian menu designed by Chef, Luke Mangan.

I have reviewed Glass Brasserie before, and while I wouldn't usually post a re-review, Christmas at Glass Brasserie is something else.

Christmas for me is usually spent with family in Queensland (eating then swimming then eating again). My cousin is getting married in Queensland in March though so my Mum and I decided to postpone our annual trip to go to the wedding in a few months time. Since we would be in Sydney, just the two of us, we decided to try something different as a Christmas treat.

I booked online about a month in advance. I'd suggest booking well in advance to avoid missing out.

The Christmas cheer wasn't over the top in the fine dining restaurant. Bon bons were on each table and tasteful Christmas music was played softly throughout the night. A Christmas inspired menu was designed especially for Christmas Day, highlighting fresh, local and seasonal produce as always. Unfortunately the Vegan Menu hadn't been revamped for the holiday although I wasn't fussed since there were dishes on the menu I hadn't yet tried.

How great would it be to work as a Sommelier? To get paid to taste wine and offer wine related advice sounds like somewhat of a dream job to me. We went with a bottle of Cillar De Silos Joven, a Spanish red wine, AKA heaven in a glass.

Lightly toasted bread with olive oil
Shortly after wine was opened and complimentary tasters were served, lightly toasted bread and olive oil were brought to the table (the waiter ensured a vegan option was provided without me even having to ask).

The service is friendly and extremely accommodating. They know their menus and offer fitting suggestions.

Samosa with spiced tomato chutney, $18.00
These warm, savoury, vegetable filled samosas are encased in a pretty amazing pastry with a soft crunch and contrasts well with the spiced, yet sweet, tomato chutney.

Pumpkin and Ginger Ravioli with fig, chilli, walnut pesto, $38.00
The Pumpkin and Ginger Ravioli is warm, comforting and filling. The fresh pasta is perfectly soft and you will want that fig, chilli, walnut pesto smothered all over every mouthful. I was able to request the pesto sans fig due to allergies so if you have any allergies just let your waiter know.

Selection of Sorbets, $14.00
As mentioned in my first review, there is one vegan dessert option - A Selection of Sorbets. While the sorbets were lovely (especially the coconut sorbet), it would be nice to see Glass Brasserie bring the level of vegan dessert options up to the level of that of the vegan entree and main options and even the level of the amazing looking non-vegan desserts.

The Glass Brasserie is an indulgent treat for Christmas lunch or dinner. Why not treat yourself next Christmas?

  1. Nice idea for Christmas Chelsey! When you said vegan option for bread did you mean the olive oil instead of butter? Or is there something I didn't know? Yeast is ok isn't it (I mean it's alive but errm not?).

    1. Haha! That's some Level 5 vegan stuff right there :P Just playing!
The bread itself was different. I didn't ask why at Glass although from experience it could have had egg whites or milk powder on the ingredient list.

  2. P.S. Sorry that that sounded like a totally dumb question! It's just that things like honey throw me in that they are not vegan friendly so I really don't know.
