Hotel Review: Pullman Hotel (King Power) - Bangkok, Thailand

View of the city from the Executive Lounge
Escaping Sydney during the peak of Winter this year was a great life decision.
I was born and raised in Sydney yet I still can't seem to get used to the Sydney cold or the wind that just seems to cut right through. I feel like my body was designed for a much warmer climate and after only a few hours in Thailand I felt right at home. My family and I travelled through Thailand for three weeks in July. We started our trip with three days in Bangkok, enjoying a little luxury at the Pullman King Power Hotel.

The Pullman King Power Hotel is a modern 5-star hotel in Thailand's capital city, Bangkok.
It's just a 25 minute train ride on the Airport Rail Link from the Suvarnabhumi Airport or a 30 minute drive (much longer in traffic). A limousine service is also offered by the hotel if you're feeling indulgent with prices ranging from 1,850-3050baht.

The hotel is modern, spacious and most importantly - clean (plus all stays include unlimited wifi which is nearly as important as cleanliness, right?).

The friendly staff really go above and beyond. I almost felt like they were doing too much for me. Access to the Executive Lounge (included if you book a suite, executive room or for Le Club Accor Hotel members) adds an extra dose of comfort, providing complimentary drinks, nibblies and space to lounge away from your room. Otherwise, most of the day can be spent in the hotel's rooftop pool, spa, gym, various restaurants or exploring Bangkok. It's close to major tourist destinations which can be booked through the tour desk. Or just go for a walk or catch the train or light rail and make your own adventure.

ROOMS
The Superior Room was a fair size with a floor to ceiling window that filled the room with light. Although the room was a non-smoking room it seemed to have the lingering smell of cigarettes which was a bit of a turn off. Luckily our family didn't have the same problem in their room. The bed was ridiculously comfy, though the best thing about the room was the bathroom. It was huge, open plan and elegantly marble clad with a rain shower and large tub.

FOOD
The Pullman Hotel has a few dining options. Cuisine Unplugged, the Wine Pub, Glen Bar, the Executive Lounge or a booking-only private function outdoor area surrounded by a large koi fish pond.

Cuisine Unplugged is the buffet dining area and main eatery that prides itself on it's variety of international foods. On weekends the specialty is the seafood buffet. The breakfast buffet provides a great variety of food (including more vegan options than I expected). Besides the staples of bread, pastries, fruit, rice and eggs, the breakfast options changed daily. The amount of choice at breakfast buffets often result in me returning to my table with a random mix of everything. See the picture above? Fresh fruit, potatoes and sushi...what was I thinking?

The Executive Lounge (included if you book a suite, executive room or for Le Club Accor Hotel members) provides a little more indulgence. A small buffet is provided for breakfast and dinner and complimentary drinks and nibblies are available all day.

AMENITIES
As we spent most of our 3 days in Bangkok exploring the city it didn't leave much time to visit the hotel's gym, spa or salon. Although we did spend an afternoon on the deck chairs by the pool which was lovely. The pool was cool and clean and the bar service was fab. The barmen even ran out to us with umbrellas when the storm hit.
Tours can be booked at the hotel's tour desk but expect to feel taken advantage of by the touristy prices. Finding your own way around Bangkok turns out to be much cheaper and makes for a fun adventure.

  4. Those buffets do look great -- I love having a real variety of things to choose from, especially for breakfast when you never know quite what you'll want. How did you get around Bangkok? Walk, taxi, something else? I always worry about getting lost, though I suppose with smartphones it is easier to avoid than it used to be.

    1. If it was close by we walked, we got a taxi when we had our luggage with us and we caught the train to the airport and to one of the shopping centres. We did get a little lost as we only had internet on our smartphones inside the hotel but it was all part of the adventure! Haha
