A Vegan's Review of The Green Tangerine, Long Jetty

The Long Jetty cafe scene is thriving. Visit the trendy little suburb on the Central Coast of New South Wales for great food, coffee, vintage finds, art and music. The Green Tangerine is one of the must-try cafes in the scene boasting artisan baked goods, specialty groceries, The Little Marionette coffee and a simple menu, done well.

My friend Andrea and I escaped to the Central Coast for a mini girls getaway the weekend before Australia Day. We had booked in accommodation on the very first day back at work after the Christmas holidays because holidays are never long enough, are they? After a Sunday sleep in, which for us was around 7am (damn body clocks), we were craving a good cup of coffee and a feed to help us recover from a late night.

THE COFFEE

The best tasting coffee I've had while exploring vegan eats on the Central Coast was at The Green Tangerine. The Little Marionette Coffee is available in take home bags as well as in store. Soy, almond and coconut milk are available and syrups too. The coffee may not have looked it but it was so smooth and creamy.

THE FOOD

Central Coast foodies will want to add this cafe to their list if it's not already on there.  The menu is a collection of simple meals done well. A quick glance at the menu will have you wondering if there's any vegan options however speak with the friendly staff and they are more than happy to veganise most meals where possible.

The Club Veg Paradiso can be veganised by request. It's a delicious, healthy and filling platter made up of The Green Tangerine's famous homemade sourdough, sautéed kale, tomatoes and mushrooms, a generous serving of avocado, garnished with hommus and a wedge of lemon.

Andrea ordered granola, fresh fruit, yoghurt and almond milk which was fresh, vibrant and came with so much fruit we could've shared it between us both. I was stoked that it came with dragonfruit, one of my favourite fruits that it so hard to come by in Sydney. This dish can be veganised by ordering it without the yoghurt and honey and confirming the granola used on the day doesn't contain honey.

Other vegan food options at The Green Tangerine include:
- Avo Dukkah Do: avocado, toasted kale, lemon, oil and lemon pepper on homemade sourdough.
- Shroom Town Rats: Mushroom and kale on homemade sourdough.
- Club Veg Paradiso: Sauteed tomato, mushroom, kale, fresh avocado, hommus and lemon with homemade sourdough.
- Granola, fresh fruit and plant-based milk
- Almond milk smoothies

The menu may change according to seasonal produce so check in store for more vegan eats.
