Chelsey Crafts: A Vegan's Review of express Din Tai Fung at Pitt St Mall, Sydney City

"The World's tastiest dumplings" are now available fast food style from the Pitt St Mall food court, Food On Five.

If you are a fan of dumplings, Din Tai Fung's world famous dumplings to be exact, then you will love that the warm little parcels of 5 star dumpling goodness are available express style.

The Food On Five food court is located on Level 5 of Pitt Street Mall and as I mentioned here, this food court is a cut above the rest. Instead of the usual fast food options Food On Five houses a variety of gourmet options from Sabbaba to Iku Wholefood and of course, Din Tai Fung.

Similarly to Din Tai Fung's restaurants, windows through to the kitchen allow diners to watch the chefs handcraft each dumpling according to strict size and weight specifications and orders are made by marking an order card. Hand over your order card and your money at the counter in exchange for a beeper then find a table or wait until your beeper starts buzzing (approximately 8-10 minutes).

Convenient little chilli oil or soy sauce packages are available alongside the napkins and chopsticks. I couldn't get over the cute little chilli oil containers.

The Vegetarian Jiao Ze ($5.80 for 4) was just as good as the restaurant locations - piping hot, fresh, soft and filled with a mix of greens, vermicelli noodles and tofu. My friend and I decided the perfect combination of condiments using the takeaway packets is 3 packets of soy sauce to one container of chilli oil.

Asides from Vegetarian Jiao Ze other vegan options are:

- Dan Dan Noodle

- Red Bean Dumplings

- Steamed Mini Bun (Black Sesame, Red Bean, Taro)

Din Tai Fung has successfully brought their 5 star dumplings to the masses in fast-food, food-court form. Food On Five is a great foodie fast food hangout with so much variety everyone will be satisfied.
