Do you ever go to your fridge/pantry to see what you can make and all you have is a bunch of random ingredients that are just shy of making up a meal?
This is usually the time when I think - why not just mix it all together and make a smoothie bowl?
I'd never used kiwi fruit in a smoothie bowl before, and doubtfully wondered how it would mix with almond milk, but I had a kiwi fruit that needed using up and was in the mood for experimenting.
My go-to smoothies usually involve Acai smoothie packs from Amazon Acai but I wanted to make this one really green. Also, I was out of Acai smoothie packs.
The kiwi fruit gave the smoothie a slightly tangy taste and I kind of wished I'd had spinach that needed to be used up instead. It wasn't bad though for a mix of leftovers and it looked kinda pretty.
Smoothie Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons
- 1 teaspoon flaxseed oil
- 1/2 banana
- 1/3 cup mango (I used frozen)
- 1 kiwi fruit (I recommend using a small handful of spinach leaves instead)
Toppings
- 1/4 cup Loving Earth Deluxe Clusters from Summer Hill Organic Market
- Blueberries
- Strawberries, sliced
- Banana, sliced
Steps
1. Place all smoothie ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth. 2. Pour smoothie into a bowl. Pour a layer of buckinis over half of the smoothie then add the rest of your toppings as creatively as you like (this is my favourite part!).
Instagram then enjoy ;)
Do you ever experiment with leftovers or smoothies? What are your toppings of choice?
I feel as though I'm missing out on an enormous trend. I've never had a smoothie bowl! :P
ReplyDeleteFoodie blasphemy Lorraine! haha kidding, but really, try it - you won't regret it!
DeleteWith leftovers I usually make vegetable stew or fried rice :) Your bowl certainly looks healthy!
ReplyDeleteOh yum! Now I feel like a veggie stew. Leftovers can be the best sometimes.
DeleteThis is a great idea! I have smoothies/shakes every morning but I have never tried kiwi in them!!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good. Love using maple syrup as the sweetener!
ReplyDeleteI love smoothie bowls too and always experiment with leftovers the same way ;)
