Vegan Review: Vege Rama, Post Office Square, Brisbane City

Cauliflower Salad and Dill & Mustard Salad, $9.00
Cajun Fries, $3.00

Finding Vege Rama turned out to be a mission! The address online says Vege Rama can be found in Post Office Square on Queen Street but it's on the far end of Post Office Square so it ends up sitting on Adelaide Street (across from Anzac Square). It was worth the search though because the food is amazing! All of it. And it's all vegan. Amazing.

The lunch line trails outside the doors and the few tables outside fill up fast. Service is quick and friendly and customers keep joining the end of the line.

The hot buffet has everything from Indian and South-East Asian curries, Italian and Greek classics with a twist, Middle Eastern dishes and the most popular - Mexican meals. I'm told the dishes change every day and I can imagine that if you work in the area that would provide some variety.

There is a cold buffet too and this is full of the most amazing mix of fresh, healthy salads, frittatas and sweets.

SALADS
The Dill & Mustard Salad was so fresh and has plenty of avocado which to me is the best part about eating salad. You can make friends with salad especially when avocado is involved. Cabbage and sugar snap peas gave it a nice crunch and beetroot gave it a hint of sweetness.

Cauliflower Salad. Mmm..the cauliflower salad. The cauliflower salad was covered in creamy tahini dressing and was deliciously moorish. I could eat this salad all day everyday. It was my absolute favourite dish from Vege Rama.

The Veggie Boost Salad was a close second. Filled with cauliflower, broccoli, sweet potato, carrot, rocket, zucchini and covered in that amazing tahini dressing it was a filling, satisfying yet completely nourishing lunch.

The Sweet Potato Salad | Quinoa, carrot, rocket, red capsicum, coriander, sultanas, beans and pumpkin and sunflower seeds. This salad was light, yet filling and the sultanas added a touch of sweetness. The dressing was light and not overpowering and covering the salad in tahini dressing was a good life choice.

HOT DISHES
The Cajun Fries ($3) were an afterthought when I was ordering a salad. I'd already ordered my salads but saw a sign for the fries and the girl serving me was in love with them so I had to try them. They were so good, especially dipped in whatever the green dipping sauce is that comes with them that I ended up filling up on fries and didn't have room for the salads.

The Thai pumpkin is a rich, creamy and a little spicy curry regular at Vege Rama. It's delicious, full of flavour and is perfect with brown rice.

The Thai Massaman had a good mix of vegetables - broccolli, cauliflower, capsicum, tofu, green beans and carrot. It's creamy, flavoursome and not too heavy.

The Shepherds Pie topped with mashed potato looked so comforting in the buffet window. I took two containers of Vege Rama's shepherd pie to share at a family dinner during the week. Everyone was impressed with the taste and how healthy it was since the mince was replaced with lentils and mixed vegetables. It was definitely a winner!

I still crave the Cauliflower Salad now that I'm back in Sydney. Now to figure out that delicious tahini dressing...
