GF Original Burger (optional GF bun), Classic Fries with Parisian Sauce, Peanut Butter Shake
Hand cut fries with unique, homemade sauce. Burgers. Hotdogs. Onion Rings. Nuggets. Shakes. Whoever said being vegan was no fun?
Lord Of The Fries is an award-winning, family run ethical fast food chain. Joining the Fast Food Favourites from humble beginnings, their famous fries were first served from a mobile chip van throughout Melbourne. The first Sydney store opened on George Street soon after and has now be joined by a new store at Central Station (in Railway Square). This is both exciting and dangerous since I work near Railway Square.
I had been walking past the Sydney store for months as I didn't realise they were vegetarian, so the day I tried LOTF during a trip to Melbourne last year my life was changed. I think this is a common mistake that people make as I've since heard of so many people ordering burgers then being surprised that there was no meat. I'm wondering if vego signage would help or hinder business..?
Left to right: Chunky Fries with Italian Sauce (request vegan cheese), Classic Fries with Mexican sauce, Onion Rings with Parisian sauce, Shoestring Fries with Limited Edition Blueberry sauce
The Fries
As I've said before, any potato is a good potato. Choose your potato in one of the following cuts:
- Classic
- Chunky
- Shoe String
- Sweet Potato (my fave)
The Sauces
Then choose your sauce.

Belgian and Parisian sauce are must-trys.
Italian sauce is a meal in itself. The rich tomato sauce is super tasty, made up of shredded cheese and hot Napoli sauce. Be sure to request vegan cheese, then initiate the food coma.
The 'sour cream' in the Classic Fries with Mexican sauce is so good you will wish they put more sauce on your sauce. The chilli salsa is a little spicy (I'm a chilli rookie) but goes well with the sour cream. Again, this is a meal in itself. So good!
The French Canadian sauce (with vegan cheese) is a completely indulgent, completely comforting warm sauce that you'll want all over everything.
Every month a limited edition sauce is released. They always come up with new and interesting flavours such as the one in the image above that was a blueberry sauce. I wasn't sure about the idea of blueberries in my sauce but it was actually pretty good! The Amsterdam sauce during September was amazing too. So the limited edition sauces are definitely worth a try.
New Guru Burger (optional GF bun)
The Burgers
The Original Burger is filled cheese, pickles, onion, lettuce, mayo, mustard, ketchup and a veg beef patty. I requested a gluten-free bun which was quite dense and added soy bacon which tasted too much like ham for me. Probably not the best burger I could've chosen as I don't like the taste of meat but I can imagine it would be great for those who like meat but choose not to eat it for ethical reasons. The New Guru Burger would have to be my favourite of the LOTF burgers because it has a veggie patty rather than a meat substitute patty. The burger is filled with tomato, pickles, onion, lettuce, spicy mayo, ketchup and a veggie patty. The veggie patty contains a small amount of gluten and was a little dry however the mix of sauces made up for that.
Overall the burgers don't seem extraordinary to me and I'd rather save myself for the fries and onion rings.
The Hotdogs
In my opinion, the hotdogs at LOTF taste like the real deal. Melbourne is the classic though if you'd like to make it hot go for the Tijuana or Chicago.
The Sides
The Peanut Butter Milkshake is super sweet, peanut buttery and delicious. The shakes are made with soy milk and soy ice cream so not great if you have a soy allergy :( but good enough to consider if it's worth it.
LOTF Onion Rings are hot, crunchy and tasty - order these up in a munch box with fries and Parisian sauce and you will not be disappointed.
New York Breakfast Burger (optional GF bun)
The Breakfast Menu
The best thing about the new LOTF at Central station, besides it being so close to work, is that this location serves Breakfast! Grab a coffee and a breaky bun to go and don't forget the hash browns.
The Aussie and the Bombay are not vegan as they contain egg, however the Tibet and New York breaky buns can be made using vegan cheese.
The NY breaky bun - If anything involves a hash brown, I'm pretty certain it's going to be good! If I were to order this breaky bun again I'd order it without the 'meat patty'. It was just too meaty for me. Those hash browns though...
So if you're looking for a naughty, yet ethical, fast food fix you can't go past Lord of The Fries.

We didn't really like the burgers but the fries are so good! I guess that's why they're called that and not lord of the burgers!
