Ta-da!!!!!!!!!!
If you have visited my blog in the last few months you might have seen the very beginning of this colourful granny square blanket. Ally was inspired by this image and came to me to create her own custom design.
I have loved every minute of making it. I'm usually a sort of matchy-matchy person when it comes to colour combinations so it has been a wonderful challenge to make each square completely different.
The blanket is made up of traditional granny squares and "flowery circle" squares (from circle to square). The flowery circle squares, or Summer Garden Granny Squares, can be found on Attic 24 here. They are easy to make and I think they're a nice variation on traditional granny squares, don't you think?
To finish the blanket off I crocheted each square together on the front rather than the back to get the raised edge. A simple crochet border was made using bright bursts of colour and a few crochet flowers were sprinkled on top. When it came to the flower pattern I winged it to make each one unique. I'm happy with how they turned out, I just wish I remembered the steps to make them! Next time I will write down the steps as I go.
Yarn: Moda Vera Marvel 8 ply 100g
Hook: 5.5mm (US I-9)
Size: 254cm x 127cm
Squares: 104
I gathered the blanket up on Monday afternoon and took it to the post office to send to Ally. Travelling from New South Wales to Queensland I thought the post might take a few days. Yet today (Wednesday) on my lunch break I check my emails and have an unread message titled LOVE IT!!!! and see that it's from Ally. Auspost, I am impressed.
The whole process of making this blanket for Ally has been a pleasure for me. It's a little bit sad that it's all finished now.
Ally has been collecting ideas and inspiration for more blankets though so you might very well see more of her and her designs in the future.
