GF Chickpea Battered Vegetables & Tofu served with 'sour cream' and sweet chilli sauce, $13.00
GF Sweet Potato & Yam Rolls in Rice Noodle Pastry Net, $9.50
Caprioska Cocktails - Passionfruit and Lychee
Bodhi is a charming, award-winning restaurant that specialises in vegan yum cha and pan-asian cuisine. Nestled into the heart of Sydney beneath gorgeous, fairy-strewn Moreton Bay Fig trees it's the perfect place to meet for lunch or dinner. Functions can be booked too, the restaurant holding up to 300 guests.
When I first laid eyes on Bodhi's menu I knew that Bodhi and I were made for each other. I saw gluten-free vegan dumplings and thought "I'm going to eat at that restaurant one day". And that day came two weeks ago..I was saving Bodhi for a special occasion and the occasion presented itself boldly a few weeks ago when all in the same week my house was sold, I was finally free from a past relationship and was offered new work opportunities (when it rains it pours, right?).
My dear friend Blauw and I got a table inside on a Friday night and started the celebrations with Bodhi's Passionfruit and Lychee Caprioska cocktails. They're the perfect mix of sweet and refreshing and I needed to remind myself more than once that it's not ladylike to drink an entire cocktail in one gulp.
The GF Chickpea Battered Vegetables & Tofu were deliciously crunchy yet rich and moist on the inside. The 'sour cream' was light and creamy, I only wished there was more of it.
I've tried many sweet potato and yam rolls in my lifetime and I'm confident to say these GF Sweet Potato and Yam Rolls are the best I've ever had. They were hot, fresh, crunchy and the filling was so smooth and tasty. I'm not sure what the orange dipping sauce was that came out with it but whatever it was I was tempted to submerge the rolls in it.
GF Japanese Pumpkin Gow Dumplings, $7.00
GF English Spinach Gow Dumplings, $7.00
GF Australian Mushroom Gow Dumplings, $7.00
Caprioska Cocktails - Passionfruit and Lychee
Dumplings. I could eat dumplings all day, every day. My only issue is that most dumplings contain wheat and wheat makes me sick and being sick makes me sad.
Bodhi serves not one, not two, but three types of gluten-free, vegan dumplings. I don't think you understand how happy this makes me.
I would happily order all three dumplings again and again, however, the GF Australian Mushroom Gow Dumplings were a clear winner for me. Blauw favoured the pumpkin dumplings, so everybody won.
GF Pandan Sago Pudding with coconut cream and palm sugar caramel, $13.00
For dessert we were tossing up between the Pandan Sago Pudding or the Apple Crumble. Usually I wouldn't think twice about ordering both but we were both so full by this stage we promised each other we would get one now and come back for the other next time (no doubt there'll be a next time).
The GF Pandan Sago Pudding was light, creamy and fresh. I think I was expecting it to be sweeter but the natural sweetness in the fruit mixed well with the coconut cream and makes for a good light dessert option.
We left Bodhi feeling satisfied and sure that we would return on the next celebratory occasion...or any occasion really.
