The show first came to Sydney in 2009 and each year it showcases the best makeup products, student beauty/fantasy & character prosthetic competitions and guest speakers.
To be honest, this year was a little disappointing compared to previous years. There seemed to be less stands/brands yet more of a crowd. I still left feeling inspired thanks to Make Up For Ever and Martin Brays class.

As we joined the crowd at the MAC stand we saw a few talented MAC makeup artists camouflaging their model into a rocky backdrop.
Mehron always paints fabulous, bright and colourful bodypainting artworks at their stall and this year was no exception. This is where the artist was at by 11:00 in the morning. I would have loved to see the finished result by the end of the day.
We tackled the stalls systematically, winding our way up and down each aisle and stopping to line up when we saw something we liked. We joined the back of the ridiculously crowded Lime Crime line on more than one occasion but couldn't do it. I am probably the most impatient person in the world.
Lime Crime have the most amazing colour range of lipsticks in highly pigmented and long lasting formulas. They stock colours that are hard to find like blue, green and black but also stock beautiful shades of pink, red and natural, neutral shades.
If you gave up on the Lime Crime Line too, or missed out on sold out colours, my friend Emma stocks their range at her store The Makeup Wardrobe in Newtown. You can find more info on her Facebook page - The Makeup Wardrobe + Green Eyed Monster Makeup.
We missed out on seeing the student beauty/fantasy competition entrants in action but saw them walking around and doing last minute touch ups. The theme for the competitions this year was The Elements and I think all of the entrants did a great job. See a group pic of all of the entries here.
It really doesn't feel like three years since I competed in the student beauty/fantasy comp at Sydney IMATS 2010! Where does all of the time go?
We watched Martin Bray (best known for Makeup Artist on X-Factor & Australia's Got Talent) execute this completely heat and water resistant makeup complete with false lashes and diamantes in under 45 minutes. He loves his stencils and glitter!
I was really well-behaved and only bought products I absolutely needed for my kit. I'd like to think I did it because I have great self control...but I know it was because I just spent all of my $$$ on a house.
This is what I brought home from IMATS:
++Two pencil bags for my eye and lip pencils.
++MAKE UP FOR EVER 5 Camoflauge Cream Palette
++MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Lip 15C (pink lip pencil)
++MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Eyes 11L (purple eye pencil) - Okay, maybe this one was for me...but it's SO pretty.
++A mini pink lip gloss. This colour is great for brides.
++False eyelashes. You can never have too many false eyelashes!
The aqua lip and eye pencils from Make Up For Ever are so creamy and pigmented and they honestly last all day. I would have loved to buy one in each colour but I was being well-behaved, remember?
When we were over the makeup shopping and the crowds we drove over to Pitt St and walked past this huge, yellow snail who was hanging out in Pitt St for Snailovation.
Beams Arts Festival was also held over the weekend in the streets of Chippendale. We walked through the streets and oohed and ahhed at all of the art installations. Most of the installations were set up with lighting that I imagine would have looked awesome come nightfall.
How sweet are these little cork potted succulents?

How exciting! And it was packed! I've always been intrigued by bodypainting. The students did an amazing job - love the rainbow-coloured hair on one participant. And YOU did an amazing job too! Love the black/white - is the model wearing contacts?
