The US Single Crochet (sc) or UK Double Crochet (dc) is one of the crochet fundamentals and is also one of the easiest stitches to make too.
Here is how to make it...
Step One: Insert hook into stitch.
I have inserted the hook under both loops of the stitch in this example but you can also insert the hook under the back loop only or the front loop only depending on the pattern &/or personal preference.
Step Two: Yarn over.
Take the yarn in your left hand (or right if you're left-handed) from the back of the hook over to the front of the hook as shown in the pic above.
Step Three: Pull the yarn through the stitch. You will now have 2 loops on your hook as shown in the pic above.Step Four: Yarn over.
Step Five: Pull the yarn through both loops on the hook.
Voila! You have now made a US Single Crochet/UK Double Crochet.

Apologies for my tatty, sad nails(especially the really sad nail on my left thumb). I thought about painting them this week but then remembered that my nail polishes have already been packed, deep down in the box labelled Bathroom, under the boxes labelled Linen and Clothes.

Hi Chelsey,
ReplyDeleteI'm still learning :) I like how you show each step clearly. I hope to get my stitches as accurate as yours!!
Thanks for this! I really love knitting and have always wanted to learn how to crochet! I am going to sit down and learn this now!
